Your expertise will support the museum’s mission to preserve cultural heritage while providing exceptional service to visitors, researchers, and staff alike. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the preservation of history through meticulous data management and customer-focused service. The Archivist Technician (Tech) role includes accessioning, processing, description, preservation, storage, and access to archival materials, as well as assisting in managing institutional records in compliance with relevant laws. The Archivist also supports library services with collection. This position could become permanent.

Duties
- Catalog and organize archival materials using specialized software and databases, ensuring accurate classification and easy retrieval. Proper storage and handling practices for each media.
- Ability to focus on a single, repetitive task without distraction.
- Maintain detailed filing systems for physical collections, ensuring proper storage conditions and accessibility.
- Troubleshoot computer hardware and software issues related to integrated library systems or database management tools.
- Collect data on collection usage, condition reports, and conservation needs to inform preservation strategies.
- Handling documents safely and for sorting them according to internal policies and categories.
- Responsible for being able to determine document categories such as, “Collections Documentation” and “Reference Files,”

- Proper storage and handling practices for each media.
- Assist in inventorying the Archives and in flagging any missing or outdated information.
Qualifications
- Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail in managing physical and digital collections.
- Proficiency in using databases, integrated library systems (ILS), and other computer software for cataloging and data entry.
- Comfortable using digitize essential records on the collections management system.
- Excellent writing skills for documenting collection details clearly and accurately.
- Experience with filing systems, library services, or archival management is highly desirable.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members.
- Basic typing skills for efficient data entry; familiarity with software troubleshooting is a plus.
Key Competencies
- A knowledge of archival theory and methods preferred, including as demonstrated by a degree in Information Science, Library Science, or Museum Studies.
- Experience in the practice of archival management or library science, as demonstrated by 4-5 years of relevant work experience, is preferred.
- Strong alphabetization skills, attention to detail, ability to focus on a single, repetitive task without distraction, interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work in both collaborative and independent settings, knowledge of current trends in archival management, ability to adapt to tasks as assigned, and some knowledge of copyright law preferred.
