The Raclin Murphy Museum of Art seeks someone who cares for and appreciates art and artifacts to fill the position of Art Handler. They will work both independently and in a team setting under the guidance of the Chief Preparator. This position specializes in the care, matting, framing, transportation, and installation of works on paper. This role is integral to preserving and presenting delicate artworks, including drawings, prints, and photographs. As part of an academic museum dedicated to preservation, research, and education, the Art Handler will ensure the collection's safety and longevity.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of best practices for handling, packing, and installing art, ensuring its safety in both storage and exhibition settings. This position requires precision, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of art stewardship.
Qualifications:
-Education Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (4 years)
-Professional Experience: 3 to 4 years
-Degree Qualifications: Studio Art, Graphic Design, or a related field.
-Skill Qualifications: Knowledge of art museum standards for collections care and safe art handling, archival hinging, matting, and framing. Lift at least 50 lbs. Must be comfortable working on ladders or lifts and possess a current driver’s license.
