Description
This is a full-time position with Pioneers' Museum located in Imperial, California. This position is responsible for the operation of the Pioneers' Museum, leading a dedicated community of staff, volunteers, and regional partners in its management, growth and development.
The Museum Director serves at the pleasure of the Board of Directors of Imperial County Historical Society and reports directly to them. The Museum Director collaborates closely with the President of the Board to fulfill the Society's mission, in accordance with its Strategic Plan and Board expectations. The Board of Directors consists of sixteen members, elected by the general membership, and meets monthly.
The Museum Director's duties include:
Proving leadership and direction for the development and implementation of short- and long term plans and projects and growth of the Museum, including the development of core documentation.
Overseeing all elements of administration, involving marketing, planning, procedures, scheduling, display, and assets
Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the museum
Supervising the paid as well as the volunteer staff
Collaborating with the Board of Directors to assure that the goals and objectives of the museum are carried out.
Arranging and overseeing events, social gatherings, meetings with members and the public
Attending and collaborating with key public entities and partners, including but not limited to Imperial County Board, Imperial Irrigation District Board, City Councils, and educational institutions
Collaborating with other museums and educational institutions to further the opportunities for partnerships
Promoting the museum using personal contacts, meetings with local supporters, service clubs and social media.
Preparing annual budgets, reports, and other documents necessary to the function of the museum
Preparing the Board Agendas in cooperation with the Board President
Developing fund raising programs and opportunities, supporting grant applications, and donor opportunities
Ensuring responsible stewardship of the Society's 3D collections and archives
Other duties as assigned by the Board
Requirements
Key qualifications:
Ability to lead teams, groups, and volunteers
Have a minimum bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Have the ability to use standard computer programs such as Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, etc.
Have leadership and organizational skills and experience
Will consider an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Be a good communicator; to make presentations to a variety of organizations and to be able to articulate the value, benefits, goals and needs of the museum
Be enthusiastic about the museum when meeting with visitors, members and in social gatherings and social media
Be innovative and a problem solver, willing to think out of the box
Have a professional work ethic and be a self-starter
Have office skills that are necessary for financial reports and grant reporting
Have the ability to creatively reorganize and revitalize the various displays within the Museum to encourage visitors to return
Have the ability to work with a variety of employees and volunteers and promote volunteerism
