Position Summary...
As the Director of Exhibit Curation and Digital Experience, you will lead the museum’s digital and physical curatorial strategies, ensuring the organization’s collections, exhibitions, and experiences meet world-class standards of innovation, storytelling, and accessibility. This leadership role combines technological expertise, curatorial rigor, and organizational leadership to preserve the past while inspiring future generations through cutting-edge methods of digital curation and storytelling inside The Walmart Museum, across our Home Office, our remote locations, and on our website.
In this strategic position you will oversee multidisciplinary teams encompassing curators, designers, and museum professionals. Your leadership will set the vision for integrating contemporary technologies into curation and exhibition design while expanding access to the museum’s collections both physically and digitally. As a thought leader, you will ensure the museum remains at the forefront of digital innovation, scholarship, and associate engagement, and physical design.
As a member of Walmart’s Museum and Heritage group, you will define and execute key strategies that integrate cultural preservation with Walmart’s broader corporate goals, working closely with both internal and external stakeholders to foster connection, pride, and engagement.
What you'll do...
Leadership and Organizational Management:
Executive Team Leadership: Lead and inspire cross-functional teams of curators, content creators, and museum professionals in strategic and operational areas, including physical and digital exhibitions, innovation initiatives, and curatorial programs.
3rd Party Management: Lead and manage the execution of deliverables from 3rd party design partners to deliver new physical and digital exhibits, content, and programming.
Talent Development: Cultivate a culture of creativity and excellence by providing mentorship, professional development, and performance management for curatorial and digital staff.
Strategic Decision-Making: Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, offering insights into emerging trends and strategic opportunities to drive the museum’s impact in the community and across the company.
Strategic Planning for Curatorial and Digital Transformation
Visionary Leadership: Define and oversee the museum's long-term strategic direction for curatorial excellence and digital transformation. Establish priorities that align with our goals while creating measurable outcomes for success.
Policy Leadership: Set and implement curatorial and technological policies, governance, and procedures, ensuring alignment with organizational values and compliance standards.
Digital Innovation Strategy: Own the museum’s digital roadmap, guiding the development and implementation of tools, platforms, and technologies to expand global access to collections and enhance visitor engagement.
Exhibition and Experience Development
Curatorial Oversight: Lead the conceptualization, planning, and execution of physical and digital exhibitions that strengthen the museum’s prominence locally, nationally, and internationally.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with programming, tours, operational and archival teams to ensure exhibitions resonate with diverse audiences and promote the museum's vision.
Excellence in Design: Ensure exhibition experiences meet the highest standards through rigorous reviews, enabling compelling storytelling and the strategic use of technological innovations.
Technological Integration and Innovation
Digital Transformation Leader: Champion the use of new digital experiences to enhance exhibition design, storytelling, operational effectiveness, and collection accessibility.
Big Data and Insights: Leverage data analytics and emerging technologies (e.g., AI, machine learning, AR/VR) to shape audience engagement and enhance storytelling.
Training and Development: Ensure the museum and archives teams are equipped with critical technological expertise to support and advance digital initiatives.
Public Engagement and Outreach Leadership
Strategic Partnerships: Build relationships with cultural institutions, museums, universities, and organizations globally to foster collaboration and drive innovation.
Audience Growth: Champion initiatives that engage audiences across complex demographics, ensuring all visitors can connect with history and culture in meaningful and inclusive ways.
Operational Excellence and Financial Stewardship
Resource Allocation: Strategically manage the curatorial and digital technology budgets and resources, ensuring cost-effective solutions that deliver high-value outcomes.
Operational Efficiency: Establish best practices in project management and operational processes for cross-departmental initiatives, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and budget.
